When my sister and I were growing up in Edmonton, our parents took us out for dinner every Saturday night, without fail. As eighties babies, we experienced playzones, menus with cartoons to color on, and boxes full of Dollar Store treats where we could pick our treasure from the waitress when the check came.
Looking for Great Kid Friendly Restaurants in Edmonton?
Today, Elle’s generation experiences a totally different restaurant reality. Not only is Edmonton bustling on the foodie scene (goodbye Smitty’s and Swiss Chalet!), but there are a totally different set of logistics and criteria that make dining out with a baby enjoyable and comfortable. Similar to the logistics I look for when taking Elle on a coffee date (read about some of our fave baby friendly coffee shops in Edmonton here, restaurants that make our list of kid friendly restaurants in Edmonton have kids menus, high chairs, change tables, stroller-accessible entry and overall, comfortable seating. Some even have playzones, although during these times, I ensure that Elle stays more than socially distanced from those. A server who loves children, and fellow diners who can patiently answer all of Elle’s questions (especially her signature ask: “What are you doing?”) are a bonus!
Some Restaurants offer fun Kids Play Areas, too:
Here are our favorite baby friendly restaurants in Edmonton:
- LOVEPIZZA : It’s a tried and true question: Who doesn’t LOVE pizza? I most certainly do, and so does Elle. The love is definitely two-way because LOVE PIZZA offers kids meals, drinks and desserts. On Sundays, kids eat for free all day when you order any regular pizza.
- OTTO Food & Drink: Serving up family nights from time-to-time, this neighborhood gem thrives on an ethos of encouraging community, conversation and sharing. Served family style, OTTO specializes in sausages, with delicious, kid-friendly sides like pretzel rolls and smoked mac & cheese. The dutch cocoa brownie is decadent for both, Elle and her dad!
- JUNIPER Café & Bistro: The concept of Juniper is to host and nurture families while they gather over good, quality food. The ambiance is great, and they serve brunch, lunch and dinner all full of comfort foods, perfectly slotted between naps if required. They do have a play area during normal/non-COVID times, and you can even order a Little One’s charcuterie plate!
- Tiramisu Bistro: Trendy, cozy and modern, this Italian restaurant has an extensive kids menu offered for breakfast, lunch and dinner. More than just spaghetti or grilled cheese, the options are extensive and enticing.
